scintillator material and is used in High Energy Physics Experiments. Barium Fluoride
(BaF2) is commonly used as a scintillator material and is useful as a transmission
window material for IR spectroscopy particularly for analysis of fuel oil samples.

windows for infrared spectroscopy, in particular in the field of fuel oil analysis.
For an equivalent thickness the transmission extends approximately 1 micron further
into the IR than Calcium Fluoride. This material is extremely sensitive to thermal
shock.
